Mass Education Directorate
Mass Education Directorate is an important wing of Department of Education Government of Bihar. The department has the mandate to execute programmes pertaining to promotion of Functional Literacy among Adult and adolescent illiterates (Particularly among age group (15-25). The endeavor initiated by Mass Department of Education for adult literacy has been transformed into campaign under which cross section of society are taking part in it. The department has its own reporting structure under Director Administrator. Deputy Director –Mass education provide leadership to the department.
Mandate
Mass Department of Education had has been contributing to subside wide spread illiteracy particularly among the adults and adolescent so that they become functional literate and better their quality of life. Various agencies that participate in the scheme are from Central Government/State Government / civil society and the other community
The Directorate focuses on development of rural communities through education. The main functionalities of the Directorate are:
Encourages and develops adult education programmes;
Promotes voluntary actions in the rural area in favour of rural development and introduction of advances technology;
Organises workshops and prepares teaching and learning materials for adult education programme;
It also undertakes research and promotional work to develop and sharpen the existing technology and methodology of adult education and rural development;
The effort has been appreciated from different corner of the society.
In a way to empower women in education,
‘Akshar Anchal Yozana’
has been initiated by Government of Bihar, which is appreciated worldwide by several international communities.
