Deputy Chief Minister Sushil Kumar Modi
has presented a surplus budget of Rs. 78,686.83 crore for 2012-13 on Friday 24th February, 2012. It seeks to entail higher taxes on the certain luxurious items, while completely doing away with taxes on a handful of small, but important the items.
He has fully kept in mind to focus on the agriculture, education, infrastructural development sector. This budget includes an annual expenditure of Rs. 78,686.82 crore, including Rs. 28,000 crore under the state annual plan.
While the budget shows the state's total receipt to the tune of Rs. 77,384.34 crore. It has a fiscal deficit of Rs. 7,569.43 crore that is within the acceptable limit of 3% of the gross state domestic product (GSDP).
The revenue surplus for 2012-13 is Rs 7,088.59 crore. It would be used for investment in the state's infrastructure including power plants, roads, bridges, schools, and agricultural growth, Shri Modi said.
This amount has been broken down by the various departments, while education has been allocated Rs. 3,670.26 crore, agriculture receives less than one-third of it at Rs. 1,200 crore.
